In this disturbing bit of news from the November 28, 2005 issue of InformationWeek:
Couch potatoes love TiVo because it lets them watch what they want when they want. But TiVo may start watching its customers, according to a patent application filed earlier this month that suggests using radio-frequency identification chips to set preferences on the digital video recorder. The company apparently thinks that RFID chips are going to be inserted into customers' clothing, jewelry, key chains, and even "inserted somewhere in the user's body," the application reads, and could be used to tailor media content for each individual. Wonder what privacy advocates will say.
