The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has opened an investigation into patent infringement claims filed by Taiwanese analog chip vendor Richtek Technology Corp. against Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) and others, the regulatory agency said.
In addition to AMD, Richtek (Hsinchu, Taiwan) also alleges patent infringement against uPI Semiconductor Corp. of Taiwan, Sapphire Technology Ltd. of Hong Kong, Diamond Multimedia Inc. (Chatsworth, Calif.) and XFX Technology Inc. (Ontario, Calif.).
According to the ITC, the Richtek complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation and sale of certain DC-DC controllers and products containing them. Richtek has requested that the ITC issue an exclusion order and a cease and desist order.
